A proven custom solution for heavy machinery, drainage & tram clearance

When Clearwater Construction needed access through a challenging Christchurch CBD site, The Ramp Man was brought in to solve three problems at once: a high kerb, the need for water to continue flowing freely through the gutter, and the requirement for the access solution to not impede the tram.

The result was a custom-engineered combination of a permeable load beam and folded aluminium checker plate ramp, manufactured, delivered and installed within the agreed timeframe.

The ramps now handle heavy machinery and plant crossing them daily, with the customer reporting no issues.

The FULL-HEIGHT TRUCKIT™ RAMP shown here demonstrates the MOTHERTRUCKER TRUCKIT™ concept and its approach to heavy vehicle transitions.

The developing system uses recycled rubber car tyres as a substantial part of the underlying support structure, providing load support, cushioning and impact absorption while creating a more forgiving footprint beneath the ramp.

The LoadBeam™ concept uses a porous recycled-rubber foundation to allow water movement through the supporting structure, helping maintain existing drainage pathways and reduce unwanted surface pooling.

Where required, integrated drainage channels can be incorporated into the system to manage water flow, protect surrounding surfaces and create a cleaner, safer access transition.

The 8mm aluminium tread plate shown represents the ShieldGrip™ surface concept, providing a tough protective layer with durable traction and improved grip in wet conditions.

Additional components including EndGuard™ edge protection and LoadBeam™ support technology are designed to work together to improve load distribution, edge protection and overall ramp performance.

The developing TRUCKIT™ system is designed around stainless steel fixings and the KerbLock™ top plate and folded retention system, helping keep the ramp securely positioned while minimising disruption to the existing surface underneath.

BUILT AROUND THE SURFACE, NOT AGAINST IT

One of the key principles behind the TRUCKIT™ concept is its soft-footprint approach.

Heavy vehicle access doesn’t always mean ripping up what is already there.

Where valuable existing surfaces such as cobbles, heritage paving, older concrete or established hardstand areas need to be protected, the underlying support system can be designed to distribute loads while working with the existing environment.

That means less unnecessary disruption, better protection of existing surfaces and a heavy-duty transition designed around the realities of the site.
